Self Defense ClassThe Madison County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to offer a basic women’s self-defense class, designed to educate women on how they can protect themselves by increasing their situational awareness and maximizing their safety potential. The class provides valuable skills and knowledge with hands-on skills and techniques needed to enhance personal safety. The class is offered to women 14 years of age or older and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This class will be offered throughout the year with a class limit of 30 participants. THERE IS NO COST TO ATTEND. The class has two parts and is approximately three hours in length depending on class size. Both Part 1 and Part 2 are completed within the same time frame. These classes are held at the NFC PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY. The address is 639 NW Mockingbird Trail, Madison, FL 32340 Part 1 The first hour is instructional, classroom time. This time focuses on showing ways of minimizing the risk of becoming a victim by understanding your surroundings, recognizing potential threats, and using verbal and nonverbal communication to diffuse situations. Part 2 Upon completion of Part 1, Part 2 is two hours in length and mainly physical. This session is instructed by MCSO certified Defensive Tactics instructors.
